Property Owners Handbook

Elevators are today a very important part of a building because they make it possible to quickly and smoothly transport people and materials up and down the property. There are an estimated 120,000 elevators in operation in Sweden today. For many in society, especially the elderly and people with disabilities, it is crucial that there is an elevator in order to be able to get in and out of a property. It also increases the quality of life for families with children and other groups in society when there is an elevator and you don't have to carry heavy bags, strollers and children up the stairs.

When it is working, few people think about the elevator in their daily lives. However, it can create a lot of frustration and even concrete problems with accessibility if the elevator is broken. The purpose of this manual is to make it easier for the property owner to take measures to ensure that the elevator works well and is safe to use.

The handbook is intended to serve as a guide for property owners and property managers who come into contact with elevators in their daily work but who have no elevator technical background. The book is intended as a complement to the publication SABO published in 2007 on the procurement of elevator services, which is why this is not covered in this handbook.

The manual was produced by the Swedish Elevator Association with SABO and Property Owners as the reference group.
