New info sheet: Retroactive legal requirement – what does it mean?

Every year, accidents with elevators occur that could have been avoided. To eliminate the risk of children getting trapped in the space between the elevator car door and the landing door, a new legal requirement has been decided. Don't wait to increase safety.

To address a serious safety risk in elevators, a retroactive legal requirement was introduced on October 15, 2023.

The requirement means that it is mandatory for property owners to provide the elevator with protection between the car and the shaft door if there is a risk that someone could become trapped in the space.

The new requirement must be met by October 1, 2031.

Don't wait to increase security

Do not wait until the end of the implementation period to increase the safety of those using the elevator; you, as the owner of the elevator, are responsible for safety.

Just a little over a decimeter can be enough for a small child to become trapped in the space. You can always ask your inspection or service company if you are unsure.
