This is why accessibility in existing residential buildings pays off

Swedish building legislation currently has high requirements for accessibility and housing supply is a public interest in Swedish law. However, the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning estimates that in Sweden there are approximately 70,000 stairwells without elevators. In Gothenburg, current statistics show that only 11 percent of the municipality's public housing is accessible! Presumably the situation is similar in other municipalities.
