Grants for retrofitting or adapting elevators to make them accessible will disappear by the end of 2025.

The government has stated in the budget bill for 2025 that their intention is that investment support for retrofitting or adapting elevators for accessibility will be gradually phased out.

Adaptation of common areas in rental or condominium buildings is part of the investment support for housing for older people and an important contribution to enabling property owners to adapt elevators for accessibility. The support corresponds to a quarter of the adaptation cost and amounts to a maximum of SEK 200,000.

The National Board of Housing, Building and Planning confirms the announcement.

The Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning has now confirmed that the phase-out will take place by allocating funds to finance commitments entered into that were decided before 31 December 2025 (Bill 2024/25:1 expenditure area 9, section 6.5 p. 173). This means that after the turn of the year 2025/2026 the opportunity to apply for the grant will disappear.
