Safety responsibility rests on the owner's shoulders
Every year, elevator accidents occur. Many people believe that the responsibility for elevator safety lies with the inspection body or service company. Service and maintenance can be outsourced, but never the responsibility. It is the owner who is responsible for safety. That is why the Swedish Elevator Association is now launching an information campaign on this topic and inviting member companies to spread the message!
Information sheet Safety responsibility rests on the owner's shoulders contains information about the liability issue and safety risks with older elevators. The material is intended to be distributed by member companies' elevator technicians or others who meet with property owners and BRFs to demonstrate the risks and the owner's responsibility.
The magazine also informs about the new legal requirement for older elevators regarding protection between the shaft door and the car door, which was introduced this year and must be met by October 1, 2031. Our hope is that the information campaign will also encourage more people to introduce safety-enhancing measures in the near future and not wait until the end of the implementation period of the new legal requirement.
The campaign will continue in 2024 and it will be possible to order more copies of the information sheet later, but we encourage our member companies and other interested parties to place an initial order now and start spreading the information through your technicians.
