The Swedish Elevator Association has produced new information material highlighting the need for government support for the modernization and retrofitting of elevators in apartment buildings. The aim is to improve accessibility for the elderly and people with reduced mobility, so that more people can stay at home longer and live an independent life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today, around 70,000 stairwells in Sweden lack elevators, while the country has one of the oldest elevator systems in Europe. Lack of accessibility risks becoming a growing challenge as the proportion of older people in the population increases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Swedish Elevator Association believes that the technology already exists, but that finances are often the biggest obstacle for property owners and tenant-owner associations. Targeted financial support could accelerate investments that provide increased quality of life, lower social costs and more future-proof properties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The material also highlights concrete examples of how elevator installations have made it possible for residents to remain in their homes and at the same time increased accessibility for home care and visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
