The Swedish Elevator Association's Secretary General Sara Berggren has been entrusted with the role of chair of the SIS\/TK 211 committee. Elevators and escalators<\/strong>.The greater transparency in the standardization work means that the Swedish Elevator Association becomes a good representative of all member companies and can keep members informed about things that can have a major impact on their operations.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of standards is to agree on clear routines that help to increase quality, avoid misunderstandings and avoid reinventing the wheel every time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2013 The Swedish Lift Association sees a need to expand its commitment to standardization in order to provide member companies with good foresight regarding upcoming standards and at the same time raise knowledge in the industry generally about standardization. Standards are one of the tools designated by the government and the EU to support companies in the transitions that now need to take place in areas such as digitalization and sustainability, says Sara Berggren, Secretary General of the Swedish Lift Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the presidency, the Swedish Elevator Association wants to deepen cooperation between the industry and standardization, for example by identifying experts who can serve as a reference on specific issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2013 Sweden is a small export-dependent country and therefore it is extremely important for Swedish industry that there are European and global standards available. Standards help Swedish companies ensure that their products and services meet international requirements, which increases their competitiveness in the global market. We must also be involved in influencing the design of the standards so that we do not leave it to others to decide, says Sara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ongoing in standardization<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The participants in the Swedish committee SIS\/TK 211 work to influence the development of standards, including by participating in the European work in CEN and the global work in ISO. The committee also works at the Nordic level in the cooperation forum INSTA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The work of the European Committee CEN\/TC 10 Lifts, escalators and moving walks<\/em> is mainly focused on safety requirements. Many of the standards are therefore harmonised with the Lift or Machinery Directive. Another important committee is ISO\/TC 178 Lifts, escalators and moving walks<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All European standards apply throughout the EU\/EFTA and thus also become Swedish standards. The CEN and ISO committees are now working together to create the EN ISO 8100 series, a common series of lift standards for the whole world. The new EN ISO 8100 series will partly replace the EN 81 series, which is the existing harmonised standard series for lifts and is used as a basis for CE marking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
