The Elevator Association appeared on Sveriges Radio about how the shutdown of 2G and 3G networks could affect emergency telephones in elevators.
The sharply increased demand for data communication in particular requires newer technologies such as 4G and 5G. Therefore, a technology shift is underway as the 2G and 3G networks are being phased out. Yesterday, the Swedish Lift Association's Secretary General Sara Berggren appeared on Sveriges Radio about the issue.
Equipment that only uses 2G or 3G will stop working when the networks are shut down. The phase-out may affect emergency telephones installed in elevators. If an installed telephone does not work, the elevator must not be used. Therefore, here is a reminder to ensure that any equipment you have is compatible with 4G or 5G.
