Consultation statement regarding the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning's final report: Assignment to propose relief for the building requirements for student housing. (2024:9)

The Swedish Elevator Association is the Swedish trade association for companies in the elevator and escalator industry. We work to ensure that all buildings in Sweden are safe, accessible and sustainable when it comes to elevators and vertical transport, to promote accessibility for everyone regardless of physical ability.

We are therefore critical of the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning's proposal to ease the building requirements for student housing with regard to accessibility. Reducing the accessibility requirements in new construction, as the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning proposes, risks excluding a large group of people from the opportunity to live and study on equal terms.

In the consultation response, we address, among other things:

  •  Accessibility must be guaranteed for everyone
  •  Negative consequences for future property use
  •  Bthe need for vertical accessibility
  • Sustainable buildings shaped for the future
  • Sweden has an international responsibility
